Self-Care Unplugged

There’s a rat race you must be intentional to not participate in.

I work remotely from home. I post blogs. I post YouTube videos. I must promote them on social media. After all that, to be frank, I get tired of looking at my phone!

I’ve learned especially on the weekends to unplug as much as possible from social media. It’s one thing to post content and another to consume it. As much as I know social media is addicting, I often get stuck in the scrolling game.

That’s why for the weekends I set a timer to kick me off the app. Doing this has taught me a few things I can appreciate:

1.     Less time online means less time sub consciously comparing myself

2.     Being present in the moment in front of me

3.     Decreasing the feelings of inadequacy when I look at my life

By focusing on this for the weekend it’s crept into other days throughout the week. I’m thankful that my perspective and relationship with social media is changing and it’s ultimately changing my mind as well.

Self-care isn’t always about skin care regimens, nails, and spa days (although I love those too). It can also look like unplugging from the race of social media and being intentional with what you give your necessary energy to.

Challenge: Get off social media for one day and make a note of how you feel, and how productive you were for work, hobbies and socially. Please also note this is NOT a fast. It’s simply learning to discipline yourself from these apps.

Let me know how it goes!
