Overcoming the Rush

Hi, my name is Felicia, and sometimes I rush ahead of God.

I’ve gotten better at patience, but it still likes to creep around and back me into a corner. Truth is, I get fed up with patience. God tells me don’t get weary. Then He shows me a glimmer, drops an idea, a piece of what He’s preparing me for…

And like that trending sound on Instagram…

“I shoot… I miss…”

Because I get so excited that I act on impulse and before I know it I’ve rushed ahead of Him. I started making plans. I started assigning tasks that were too great for me to do alone. I get frustrated it’s not coming together and suddenly I realize what I’ve done. I didn’t take the proper time to sit with God for the strategy. So here I come, looking for grace.

Part of us rushing ahead can be that we see what everyone around us is doing, and we want in on the action. But don’t despise the days of learning, refinement, and growth. Let’s learn to not compare our progress.

Sit with God to discern his strategy for you. There’s a sweet spot that God has that doesn’t always feel sweet. As you talk to Him and seek him, you’re following His voice, you won’t lag behind, and you won’t worry about getting ahead. You’re right where you need to be. In your Heavenly Father’s arms. Be fully present to make sure you don’t miss it.

Understand, mistakes like rushing ahead are part of the process. No mistake is fun, but it is essential to our learning that God has the master plan. Apparently His timepiece is quite iconic as well. Take it all in and realize that no matter what, whether you get it right that day, or take a little dip, God is with you. As long as you continue to seek out His heart in what you’re doing, He will always give you any course correction that’s needed. Follow His lead, He knows right where He’s taking you.

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.
