Live Again

One thing about pain is that it often puts its victims into survival mode. Instead of living, they stop, and they become cautious. Instead of being in the moment they overanalyze, react, and defend themselves from potential danger. They lose their sense of identity becoming anchored in timidity. They depart from their original selves and become someone entirely different.

Ask me how I know? Because when I experienced hurt at the hands of a Christian leader with no accountability, it became triggering just to visit a new church. As much as I wanted to stay curled up in the bed, under the covers avoiding future possible threats I couldn’t. The life I truly desired was an opportunity waiting to happen outside my apartment walls. Here’s what I want to empower you with if you find yourself in the same situation:

You can’t stop living.

Don’t let pain keep you in a box. Discouragement is normal. Anger is a part of the grieving process. And of course, you will trust differently, but don’t let it make you idle. Don’t let the enemy win by suppressing who you are.

You should be committed to your joy 10x the darkness you experienced. It’s hard. It’s tough. But if God has brought you this far, where else can He take you? Get committed to the healthy, whole, flourishing person within that He truly created you to be.

you can’t stop living.

Keep living, keep loving. And trust me, I am an expert at wall building to keep people out, but when someone’s character (the key word is character) shows you they are committed to you, take the wall down, love. Brick by brick. Or at the very least build a door into your wall with parameters around how to access the key.

The devil had access to your life for a certain point in time, but time is up. This day is yours. You’ve committed yourself to Jesus and joy is yours for the receiving.

You deserve it. Now live. Love and be loved. Serve and be served. Laugh and dance too. Your life’s lessons were to get better at discernment, not to keep you from enjoying life at all. But the choice is yours. Live well.
