Don't Be So Complicated

It is the end of March in the year 2020: are you ok?

A lot has been happening this year. Currently the world is experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, I’ve been spending more time in prayer, journaling, and studying. Identity is an issue that I have dealt with a lot. And it seems in this season My Heavenly Father wants me to go even deeper in this area. He’s been revealing new things. Things that make me scratch my head, enlighten me, confuse me at attempting to explain them and leave me upset for the day because I don’t know quite how to put into words what I feel I should understand. But, one question I came to Him with was heavy on me last week:

Why do we make you so complicated Lord?

Heavenly Father above sent His precious Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins. Once and for all He accomplished this. This is the agreement Christians have.

But then you have different denominations, different backgrounds, different cultures, different beliefs about tongues, no tongues, the proper time to speak in tongues, different theologies come into play, we get upset when people don’t understand because we CLEARLY understand all that there is to understand!

And I feel God is just sitting with His gentle arms open saying: “I just want to spend time with you.”

After AAAALLLLL of that, can we get back to what matters most? Because if we keep our focus there, everything else will work itself out. When we start our day listening for His voice, it carries us throughout.

Unless you are an essential employee mandated to work during this crucial time, God has cleared out your schedule for you. There, in the moments with Him, acknowledging His presence automatically makes us more obedient, more like Him, more generous and all the fruits of the spirit galore. But when are we going to lay down all that we need to do, and learn that it’s okay to just “be”:

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.  But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Luke 10:38-42

Be the child He designed you to be, full of awe and wonder, and just grasping to spend time. This week be Mary. Make the time that is designated for just Him. And don’t make it complicated, maybe even be silent. Don’t bring your checklist, goals and plans. Bring yourself and let His overwhelming presence reign. This is what you’re made for.

Keep your crown up,
