Different Results
Don’t you love how we pretend to know someone’s whole life based on a picture? My friend sent me this meme the other day and asked me what I thought about it.
On the surface it makes complete sense. Famous singer, Ciara, appears to have almost had a complete transformation from dating Rapper, Future to now being married to football player Russell Wilson. Yes, different men can bring out different results. This statement is true, but only in some ways.
Honestly, I had a real problem with this meme. Because most people will agree with it without giving it any real thought. In essence, what the photo is saying is that when you get the right man everything will be fine. This is a messed up mentality that we have as a society. You don’t attract a man more deserving of your love for apparent reason, you get a better option because YOU become better!
Personal development is real. I understand completely what this meme is stating but it’s really putting the weight on the man as if he is your savior. Dear child of God, don’t believe the hype. I don’t know Ciara personally, but from watching and listening to interviews, she dealt with herself first. She became very honest with who she was and who she needed to be and trusting God to then mold her. Because she surrendered that part of her life instead of no longer attempting to make herself into who she thought a man needed her to be, she then attracted someone who really saw her for who she is.
The lesson here is not to be so focused on getting a man that you forget who you are. The right man will just exemplify what you already have inside of you. His job is not and should never be to make you into something, whatever that may be.
Find yourself first. Start your journey to really having God reveal who you are and the purpose He has for you. You don’t have to be perfect when a man comes along, but you won’t look like your past either.
So the girl in the 2 photos is not the same girl. Not because of the man she is with, but because she decided within herself she needed a change. She has blossomed and knows more of what she deserves. She has decided to love herself first to know what it should look like from others. And that’s the real difference you see. The man standing next to her is just the cherry on top of what was already fabulous! I pray you know that you deserve to love yourself that way too!
