Step Out on Faith

Usually, when people talk about stepping out on faith, they make it sound so easy. You hear a word from God. You believe it. And you go for it. DONE.

But it’s really not like that. There’s a wave of emotions that come and go.

Here’s an insight to what actually occurs: Inspired and excited that there’s finally clarity and you see the vision clearly. Write the vision. Start to think you’re crazy. Remind yourself you can do it. Feel encouraged again. Start to outline and plan. Feel like you aren’t qualified. Think this is the stupidest idea ever and you’re crazy for believing it could work. Put the pieces together more and see it all come together. Think you will fail miserably.

Do you keep going or do you quit?

Am I speaking to myself or does this sound similar to you? That specific thing you’ve been asking God for comes with a list of emotions. Up and down. They come and go. But God coexists in all your seasons of stepping out on faith. Here are a few tips to assist you to ride the waves of emotions more smoothly:

Have friends that will encourage you. You NEED  a village. A real one that has your back and will encourage you and see you when you become unsure of who you really are. They are the wind in your feathers when you get in the thick of it. They may even be the push you initially need to take off.

Remember your why. You have to be reminded why you are doing something. Is it for family, is it for purpose, is it for income? There should be something that is greater than your fear. Then every time you get the feeling to back off, it motivates you to move past fear. Because if you don’t, you are delaying not only your process but the purpose beyond yourself.

Remind yourself of what God has done before. Relisten to prophecies given to you. Remind yourself of past prayers that you are currently living in. If God did it for you before, He will do it again. Why not? Why not this? If He gave this idea to you, He will guide you in making it happen just like He’s done before.

Don’t give up on your calling just because doubt, discouragement and fear creep in. Look those fears right in the face and remind yourself who you are and the God who told you to go for it. As you step out on faith, one day at a time, eventually you will look back and wonder why you ever had doubt in the first place.
