Food For Fuel

If you know me, you know that I love fitness. Not that I’m extremely knowledgeable. I just love to do it. I like to be active. It’s a way for me to decrease my stress because often I am very internal. So, it helps blow the steam out. But I find my personal body goals not staying where they should.

But that food though!

I love food. It contradicts my workouts. My weaknesses include pizza, Mexican food, bread, potatoes, and for most of my life I also had a very bad sweet tooth. Can I get a witness anybody?

But…that’s another story. Recently, I’ve challenged myself to actually read 1 book a month. I’ve done well so far. For April I’m reading Think & Eat Yourself Smart by Dr. Caroline Leaf. She is extremely smart! I’ve seen her speak. She makes very complex things easy to comprehend. But oh, not even 3 chapters in and she is challenging the way I now feel about food (I guess that’s a good thing).

The explanation of the meat industry alone made me just want to throw my whole kitchen away. We really should be more responsible to understand what we put in our bodies. We live in a very highly food processed world. It’s no wonder our bodies are not working for us the way that they should.

No matter how many times I may fall, I refuse to stay down. I will conquer my feelings toward food. It doesn’t help that I tend to eat when I’m bored. And I go for the easy stuff half the time which of course is what I should be avoiding. I can be so disciplined during a fast, why can’t I take that same discipline and just make it a lifestyle? It seems easier said than done, but I am determined. Being on lockdown in the house for quarantine tempts us to have snacks and unnecessary food because that’s what will actually last longer. But, is that what is best? It’s not about how big or small you are. It’s about your body operating at the best it absolutely can. Food is fuel for your body. So, if we clog it with things that don’t add to it, but instead take away, we aren’t even serving God the way we truly can. He gave us our bodies, it’s time we honor Him with our bodies with the actual food He gave to us to nourish them.

It may not happen overnight, but little by little, let’s get better. Stop buying snack and buy fruit. Don’t buy the chips and dip and you won’t be able to eat the chips and dip later. When we eat what is best our bodies heal themselves, we have extra energy for all that we are responsible for, we have the capacity to handle the pressure for our calling, and we won’t be too weak to move boldly in our purpose. And on top of THAT: when we get to where God designed for us, we can be healthy enough to maintain and enjoy it for a while. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s take ownership and responsibility of our health.

What are you going to do to conquer the food you eat? Drop some tips to be disciplined in the comments.

XOXO,
