Don’t Let Change, Change YOU!

Where are all my natural hair ladies at? Show of hands! (No worries, this is for everyone, I’m getting to it)

I have curly hair (if you couldn’t tell by now).  And I recently realized some of the products I was using probably were not the best. I came to this conclusion after I saw a few testimonies from other full-blown curly ladies giving their tearful testimony, and I realized I was seeing some of the warning signs.  For instance, more hair than usual coming out in the shower, curls not as curly, hair a bit flat. So, I reluctantly put all those products in a corner and started doing my research on new products. Let the games begin!

Because I do my best to be extremely careful about what I put in my hair I was extremely disappointed. I trusted this brand. Now I’m looking at product after product and I began to confuse myself. It can be stressful attempting to find the right products. And then because I have fine hair, I also can’t use anything too heavy. I do NOT have the time for this experimentation!!! I do NOT have the pockets to try everything in a shiny bottle. But alas, apparently, I do because I did order some products. Time will tell the truth with these newbies. Palms together everyone! Your girl needs it.

I didn’t write this to tell you about my hair problems. Truth is, it made me realize, we do this as people in life in general. Hair is such a minuscule thing in retrospect. Sometimes in life it’s something bigger: a job, a relationship, friendships, city location, your major in college.

Sometimes we have major changes that happen in our lives that suddenly happen, or that we actually need to change. Change is inevitable. The question is, how are you handling it?

Are you mad?

Are you frustrated?

Are you down?

Are you remaining idle?

Are you speaking negatively?

Are you taking it out on those closest to you?

Starting in Genesis 37, the story of Joseph, shows a LOT of changed plans.

Thrown in a pit and abandoned by his brothers. Recovered only to be sold as a slave. When he served in Potiphar’s house life got good. As he found comfort in his role he suddenly was accused of rape. Now, Joseph gets thrown in prison. It seems there’s no hope. But God! Someone finally remembers the impact he had on them in prison and his ability to interpret dreams. He’s given an opportunity that he finds favor in and is finally promoted and set free.

I love the story of Joseph. He stayed the course. When it got rough, when it got tough, when there’s wasn’t a light in the tunnel. He kept His eyes on his Heavenly Father.

“the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.”

Genesis 39:21

Just because your circumstances change, doesn’t mean you have to change. Stay the course. Our lives change but God doesn’t. Allow Him to be your stable foundation when everything else seems chaotic around you. Whether it’s as small as your hair products no longer doing what they say or learning to make ends meet now that you don’t have income.

God cares about it all, He’s the same through it all, and He wants you to know you can count on Him no matter what! Whatever shortcoming or change you may be going through I believe in you and so does your Heavenly Father because His love never changes through your circumstances. So, chins up baby girl. Let’s take this next one with a load of grace.

Keep your crown up,
