I Am Enough
Colossians 2:10
”and you are complete in Him who is the head of all principality and power”
I have, for a majority of my life, had my self-worth determined by how others treated me and how I felt they valued me. In the many different roles we play as women, I believe a lot of us do this. I have worked with many young ladies in my mentoring experience, and I would dare to say it attacks all of us at some point in time. For many of us, it’s a regular part of life.
As I continue to grow in my relationship with God, I realize this is a deadly perception. You can drive yourself crazy attempting to please everyone. So let it go! The reality is that you will not be everything to everyone all the time. You can NOT and are NOT capable of doing it.
The problem I have is that I know this information and yet I still fall into this trap. Sometimes I feel that I’m not enough because I’m not DOING enough. My family expects a lot from me. So do my friends and business partners. Then tack on society pressures, people that look up to me, and even those people I don’t even know that are watching me. I have sought to find the root of this multiple times. But it seems as if I’ve carried this burden for so long, and I have yet to discover its beginning. If you can find the starting root to your problem, great for you. Then dig it out! But you may be more like myself and don’t know where it even began. And that’s okay too! Either way, find hope in knowing that you have responsibility for how you feel about YOU.
Everyone says to love yourself, but I’ve found I need to discover to “like” me just as much as I “love” me. That power belongs only to you. Anyone that can potentially hold this power over you, you need to cut off! Recognize it when it starts, and then take your power back! The truth is, no matter how much, or little, you do, it has nothing to do with who you truly are. I like to remind myself of my true being by meditating on Colossians 2:10. You ARE enough ... simply by being you! And there’s no one that can fill your shoes the way that you do. When you feel the sense that you are worthless because your work is not enough, remind yourself that you were made complete in Him. And there is NO ONE that can take that from you!
